About the teacher
Who am I?
My name is Anita and I come from Ålesund, a beautiful town on the west coast of Norway. The landscape in this region is stunning, like something out of a fairy tale! Now I live in southern Spain, where I have lived for the past couple of years.
I have taught Norwegian since 2014, and I have helped people from all over the world reach their goals.
In 2025 I completed Norwegian as a Second Language (Prisme) at the University of Bergen.
I am very interested in languages myself, and I speak English, Spanish, German, Russian and a little Chinese. This is a big advantage in my teaching.
I understand why some things are especially challenging.
Much of what I do in the lessons is inspired by my own experiences and learning techniques.
There can be many reasons to take private lessons:
Some want to practise listening comprehension, build their vocabulary and get help with grammar, while others want to pass the Norskprøven test, apply for a job or communicate with a partner and friends. Many live in Norway and know some Norwegian, but lack the confidence to use it in everyday life. Others start from the very beginning and may not have much experience learning foreign languages.
It is not always easy to learn Norwegian, even if you live in Norway.
There are several reasons for this:
You have international colleagues and English is the working language.
You are shy or afraid of saying something ‘wrong’ or ‘stupid’.
It can be hard to make Norwegian friends, and ‘everyone’ speaks English.
Even if you use Norwegian in everyday life, dialects, slang and other everyday expressions that aren't in the textbook can be very difficult.
What are my lessons like?
The lessons are one-to-one, which means I can focus fully on your progress, and we follow your pace.
It is a completely different experience from sitting in a classroom with 15 other participants.
We work on all skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening comprehension, grammar), with an emphasis on conversation and vocabulary. I offer several different lessons, so you can find something that interests you.
I use a variety of resources, including extracts from textbooks, articles, exercises, music, pictures and videos. We agree on this together. It is important that it is interesting and relevant for you. Variety matters when you are learning a new language: you need to hear and see the words in many different contexts.
